B. Mimms "CEO of Street Composed Entertainment"

Brandon Mimms, better known as B. Mimms, is a 19 year old North Memphis native who strives to be the epitome of young moguls. “My whole team is young and I’m the youngest in the whole click, not even 20 yet.” B. Mimms is the CEO of Street Composed Entertainment, also known as S.C.E., which was established in 2006. “I was working heavily with my first artist Trouble. Now I’m working with my artist Yung Reno, who just dropped his debut mixtape titled “City is Mine”. Also I’m in the studio now with Carlito working on a single to push heavily in this second quarter.” So what makes his artists on his record label so unique? “I try to have a well rounded label. My artist Trouble(name speaks for itself) offers that real hood, gutta, street shit that the real street niggas can relate to. Carlito is your everyday stay fly, stay fresh, type of artist that everyone can relate to, I compare him to Yung Joc. Yung Reno offers versatility, not only in his delivery but in his subject matter."

Being that music is his only passion and all he knows , it has always played a major role in his life but was something he never saw a future in until high school where the opportunity arose. “This music shit is a real hustle and it takes serious tome, dedication, and a grind. If you ain’t 10 toes down then you might as well go a different route.”

“I’ve always been a “why work for someone when you can do it gor yourself” type of person. I felt like I had all the tools to make it possible, so why not?”

So who is someone he looks up to? “ On some real shit, I look up to Gotti. I don’t think no other indie label is as structured as I&E, and everything is that way because of him. He’s not just an artist he uses his business sense and street sense to really make shit happen.”

Whats an advantage of being a CEO? “An advantage is that I don’t report to anybody. This is a team, everybody hold the same power and no one person can make a decision. “You’re only as strong as your team.” What would be an disadvantage of being a CEO? “When shit hits the fan be prepared for everything to fall on your back and be prepared to carry that weight.”

“I don’t consider myself an CEO yet,I’m a hustler. I feel like certain things have to be achieved before you can be rightfully called a CEO, and until I do those things I’m just…….B. Mimms.”

So what’s next for B. Mimms and the whole S.C.E? They are going to continue to try and further their artists career, also some major things from parties to promotions. “My homie Weezy Wee has expanded and is working with modeling stuff. Shout out to S.D.G.
“Shoutout first and foremost to anybody who in my corner 100%. The whole S.C.E/ I&E fam. Just everybody and especially Mz. Jaszy.”
Odd Ones
-Favorite clothing line? I’m a plain nigga…polo and levis

Street Queen Entertainment

Presents

Miss Mama Queen

Lasheka Benford, better known as Lil Mama,Miss Mama Queen, or just Queen, is one of the best female rappers on the come up as of right now. At just the age of 21 she writes her own music, as well as writes R&B songs for others,"I'm Cold with the R and B songwriting ! I been working with several local artists, just trying to get my name in the songwriting game. Best so work so far is "Happiness" and "Upz and Downz", both of those songs are on Myspace at www.myspace.com/streetqueenzentrandb."

She has already been compared to majority of all the female rappers in the game, but when it is all said and done just wants to be one of the best to ever do it. She recently just sold over 40,000 ringtones on Myxer, she felt this was one of her biggest accomplishments, being that she has no big marketing schemes or major promotion."Im down here in this small city, and its people in the U.K. That have me on there ringtone. Like there's 40,000 people out there that when their phone ring, my song plays. That's incredible to me. Hopefully this time next year we will be discussing my million downloads accomplishment."

So who is Lil Mama? "Well Lil Mama is a name that was given to me when I was a lil one, like months old. Ive always been called that ever since. And at one point it was also my rap name, but I had to change it, due to legal issues with the other female rapper Lil' Mama. So now I go by Miss Mama Queen or Queen whateva floats best. But who is Miss Mama Queen? She's a ordinary female out here grinding trying to provide for me and mines one way or the other." When it comes to her influences she came up listening to Mary J. Blige,TLC,Aaliyah, and Monica, but the first rapper that she actually got into was Eve."I use to write down her lyrics and recite them, and be all hype about it. That was back in the 8th grade, and then I just started rapping myself. Then I started listening to different artists and different styles of Hip Hop. I love Jay-Z, Pac, Nas, Fab, Remy Ma (Free Remy), T.I., Weezy, Kanye, and many others."

When it comes to the lack of female rappers in the industry, "I think a major problem that females dont realize is that it aint healthy to come in the game on a man's coatails, especially if he's already established. Alot of women settle for less too often when it comes to record deals and promotion. Also the females I've seen currently, it seems like they're scared to come out of the norm. Also at the same time, these labels are scared to put full promotion into a female rapper, which means that we have to work ten times harder than a male. The females that dont realize this fact, sit back and wait for the label to push the album, which is not gon' happen. There's a female from a round this way named Lady Dolla, thats one female i can say that has hustled from square one, to the top of her game, by her lonesome. just by gettin it in, working hard. I'm inspired by her, I believe she's with Chopper City Records now. But I admire her for that, and it encourages me. Thats why I'm not big on signing to no huge label, im already aware that it's every female for themself in this game."

" I can turn nothing into something, same time dismiss something like its Nothing!" To me that means that coming where im from, we had to make something out of nothing, erythang that I got now, wasn't given to me, I had to work for it. At the same time, some things or people may seem important, but sometimes you just have to let things go.

Her target marketers for her music, are young teenage females in the hood or the urban market. Being that she has experienced some of the same struggles they have in the past and currently, whether it's speaking about relationships, love, or whatever the situation might be. This February she begins working on her Debut release under her record label Street Queenz Entertainment. None of her other work has actually been put in stores just pushed out in the streets, but on this debut she wants to go all the way and see what the business has in store for her. She looks foward to working on the songwriting tip with Beyonce, Keyshia, Monica, Lil Mo, and Mary J. Blige. Rap wise, she's looking forward to working with Remy Ma. "Since she been locked up, the female game been quiet. I see Nikki shaking some thangs but im trynna get in there, and do me."

When asked would she ever do a reality show like Miss Rap Supreme, she repiled "My thing with that show is….where are they finding this talent and what process did they have to go through to get there? I just felt like they could've found better talent. But would I do the show? Yes! For the love of Money, and for the Exposure." When it comes to her favorite stores she like antique shops or thrift stores, that sell stuff from the 80's and 90's era. She loves buying accessories, odd items, and clothes, so when it comes to going to a party no one has on her outfit. When it comes to a celeb crush, it definitely has to be T.I. "From the outside looking in, he seems to be what the definition of a real Hood N**** is pose to be. Family man, Business man, and got Street Knowledge, plus he fine as f***. So yeah, he can get it."

With all that said first and foremost big shoutouts to Jaszy for giving me this opportunity, best wishes to everything you put ya hands on Homie. Thanks to all the fans in every hood, city, state, and country. Shoutouts to My Street and Online Teamz. To my Manager D, Myxer.com, Block2Block, HTHG, and Rawksteady, thanx for the support. BIG UPZ TO ALLL MY HATAZZ ! MWAHHHHH!

HBO On A Good Night?!?!

Skewby...the Multi-Tasker!
~Mrs. Jaszy

At the age of 19 the talented multi-tasker,SKEWBY, is definately a perfectionist.Born in Charleston,S.C and raised in Memphis, he is what you would call the "new sound" of Memphis."I've been rapping since MC Hammer copped his first pair of parachute pants. I love music, LOVE music, its me. I'm dead without it", says Skewby. Let's get to know a little more about him......

-Who is Skewby?
I'm me.

-Describe a day in the life of Skewby.
The day in the life of Skewb..haha.
I wake up, throw some water on my face, then walk in the studio. I'm heavy into reading to, right now I'm on Paul Arden. That's my dude right now!

-Who inspires you?
EVERYTHING. In 2008, its hard to not be inspired. We have access to infinite music, art, and movies for FREE. If you need to be depressed, look @ gas prices or come to Memphis to see how f*cked up the school system is. I love it all.

-Your dream girl has to be…?
The size of Monique with the IQ of Albert Einstein. :)

-When you are down you…?
I write about it. When I record songs when I'm down they come out great. I can hear the pain, it brings me back that moment. The record feels real to me. I have this song called "No, no, no", everytime I hear it takes me back to the moment. I'm ready for yall to hear it.

-Your favorite rapper is..?
Jay-Z. When I heard the Blueprint, it changed the way I listened to music. When I bump into him I'm definitely thankin' him for making that album.

-What does your music bring to the table?
Me, I don't think their is another Skewby in music...I mean, if you can find one let me know.

-Where did the concept for “The Girl Song”?
Actually, I had that beat for about 3 months. I was going to all these rappers and letting them here it. They loved it, but were scared of what it would do to their image ya know. I liked the beat, but I felt like if I got it into a majors hands it would be a bigger record. Then after all the no's I recorded it for a demo I was taking to Atlanta. I played it for EVERYBODY, got a good response, threw it on Myspace, and now....your asking me about it :)

-How do you think we can change the industry, being that we are the future role models?
Do what we are doing now. You love writing, so your doing it YOUR way and you will go on to inspire a young girl to write how she feels. I love making music, and I hope I'm inspiring whoever is wacthing. The key is inspiration.

-Craziest thing a girl has done to get your attention?
Wow, ummm...wow..I'll save that one :)

-Single or taken?
Taken

-What have you learned…when it comes to love & dating?
I'm in love with love...I'm only 19, so I got a little bit of learning to do..but what I've learned so far is: U definitely have to love yourself first. I love hard, so I've my mistake. Notice, thats not plural ;)

-Are you a perfectionist?
Yes...

-Describe your style.
HBO on a goodnight. Sometimes they have wack nights and all the movies are booty. I'm a goodnight.

-Aside from rapping/producing etc...your hobbies are?
Honestly, that's all I do

-If you wasn’t rapping/producing etc. you would be…?
Sleeping, right now I can't see myself doing anything else

-Who are some people you would like to collab with?
Paul Pierce and KG! I'm wacthing this game right now...CRAZY. CELTICS BABY!

-Your goals for 2008.
I'm working on accomplishing them right now

-What’s up-and-coming for you?(shows,mixtapes,etc.)
Look out for me in a city near you, we have something in the works right now.

-How do you feel about the Sean Bell situation?
Honestly, I've been hearing what every has to say BUT the family. Those are the feelings that matter. Of course it makes me angry, but nobody was touched like the family and friends of Sean Bell

-Advice to upcoming rappers/producers etc.
Everybodys story is different. Don't expect your journey to the top to look familiar.

-Any Shoutouts?
Thank you mama!

Off Da Wall:

-Favotite store?

Izzacredible!

Stix Izza
"SEA Award Winner for Mixtape Artist of the Year"

Nashville native, Stix Izza, is definately a up-and-coming multi-tasker. From winning SEA Awards, to releasing mixtapes in France, to freestylin' to beats and making hits like his hit single "Money Clap."

We were able to catch up with Mr. Stix Izza, to let us know a little about him and his music .

-Where are you from?
I'm from Nashville Tennessee.......a beautiful place for music

-You started rapping..?
I Started rapping when I was 13 years old...When I was in middle school at Moore with my homey Mike Miskulin lol..Shout out 2 Mike where ever he is.....I was a baseball player all my life so I didnt really think about music again until I was 16 years old , after my father died....I started writing heavy after that, and ever since then that’s what I’ve been doing.

-Who is your inspiration?
My inspiration is my family, and being successful so I can give them a better life. Also anyone who had a dream and worked at it till they made it to the top.

-What is the craziest thing a girl has done to get your attention?
Craziest thing a chick has done was act like a concert promoter, hahaa.. She contacted me on Myspace...acted like she wanted 2 book me for a show, so everything seemed cool ,so we met up 2 discuss everything and she admitted she was just a fan and wanted 2 meet me in person...that was creative ..But wack...and I also have funny stories from bein on tour, but that would take all day....but that was the most extreme case

-Other than rapping, your hobbies are….?
Well I do rap but concerning music that’s not the only thing I do... I also write music, R&B, Country and etc.. but I am a movie fanatic and I like 2 travel...and I haven’t done much of this, but I like fishing 2....I need 2 step up my fishing game ..But one day I want to own a boat.. Captain the boat and catch crabs...like deadliest catch....hopefully by the time I am 32 that will be possible

-Describe your music in one word.
Izzacredible

-What does Stix Izza bring to the table that other rappers don't?
My Soul...it’s cliche’, because every rapper or artist will say they are different and etc..So I’m not going 2 go there...but I believe music helps people get by in life...like therapy. So I want 2 get to the point where people pop in my music 2 help them get through a hard day....and I can’t say a lot of artists ,hip hop ,rock and etc. bring that to the table. So that’s my goal. Not only 2 help the hip hop fan base but any person ,black, white, or green who listens to music...

-Where did you get the concept for your song "Money Clap"?
Money Clap was a song that just happened. My homey Broadway made the beat...I asked the engineer 2 bring it up...then I just got in the booth and just freestyled the entire track...one take...not saying that’s a hard feat cuz the track is fairly slow. But basically I was just bullshittin in the studio and that’s what came out...and people like it. So that’s what’s up

-Who would you compare yourself to, if anyone?
Probably my father....musically...I haven’t seen one yet

-You would be __(blank)___if you were not rapping?
Probably an Architect ....if I wasn’t playing baseball

-Who do you feel is running the rap game right now?
Running the rap game??? ....I would have to say Kanye West right now...he’s the truth.

-Who are some people you would like to collab with in the future?
I want to do a song produced by J. Dilla with Aaliyah on the hook, Kurt Cobain on guitar and back ground vocals...Tupac on first verse, me on the second and Biggie on the 3rd...But since that’s impossible. I’ll like 2 do a song with every artist and producer from my city...Nashville,TN.......cause we are an amazing city. Just need more unity. But I wana collab with Kanye West....

-Describe how you felt when you won the Mixtape Artist of the Year at the SEA Awards.
Well my manager hit me up..and was like yo..u won...and I was like nah..shutup..and hung up on him..cause I think I was at a club an probably 7 drinks in....so he text me and called me back cussing me out..so I was like damn..I might have really won...I didn’t believe I won until I actually saw the award with Stix on it...then I was like I guess he wasn’t lying...but that’s a great accomplishment in my book. shout outs 2 Janiro , Outlaw and Infamous 4 making that possible for me.....but I feel honored I was even nominated , let alone a winner, so I’m just blessed honestly...and go nominate me again at ...SOUTHERNENTAWARDS.COM

-What can we expect from Stix Izza this year?
Well I have released a mixtape in France...with my homey DJ Pimp....it’s available for download via the internet actually...hit me on my Myspace for that link.. (www.myspace.com/stixizza)......I also put out a mixtape with my man named Chuck aka C Dub which is heat as well...but I’m actually dropping my album the summer of 08...its called "The Author of my Story"...it’s a lot different from my other projects that I released ..It’s featuring Young Buck , Fate Eastwood ,Really Doe who is on Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music , Broadway , Ocean Jones , and a lot more...it’s a good project.....I’m having my album release in Nashville soon..July I believe..and I’m also having parties in Charlotte , Atl and Indiana as well.. Just 2 celebrate n chill.......

-Any Shoutouts?
Well I will send a shout out first to God...then Shout outs 2 everyone who believes in my dream and those who don’t like me...thank you...and to you for even wanting to do this interview with me..Preciate you

Off Da Wall:

-Single or taken?
That is one hell of a question..I asked myself that question this morning...so when I figure it out. I’ll mos def let you know......

-Favorite quote?
"In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure"~Bill Cosby

-Back in the day…would you have rocked the Kid & Play haircut?
Well I mos def rocked that cut back in the day...and would still rock that cut 2day
actually my next step is growing dreads, getting the Kid & Play cut OR getting a Mohawk...so look out 4 the Izza cut coming soon..I don’t kno which one I’m getting yet though lol

Fly Richy Rich....

Young Fly Richy
"The New Sound of Memphis"
~Mrs. Jaszy

At the age of 20 Tommy Cash, better known as Young Fly Richy, has accomplished being the new sound of Memphis, TN, and designing for two up-and-coming clothing lines, Flyer Society Clothing Co. and Fli Pelican. “Basically I work for two clothing lines one called Flyer Society Clothing Co., and another one called Fli Pelican. Basically both of the lines heard my music, and was like we want you to rock some of our shirts or wat eva’! I was thinking on more of trying to do business with them or wateva’ …Flyer Society stuff is coming out real soon, I sell whole bunch of Fli Pelican stuff, we have a group for it on Facebook and you can also go to www.myspace.com/flipelican.”
When did you start rapping?
Back in the 6th grade! Me and My lil’ homie lil’ Delton Edwards use to beat on tables and stuff, and that’s how I started rapping. I use to get sent to the office for rapping, and the only way to get out of trouble was to rap the same thing over and over again!(laughs)
Where are you originally from?
I am from Memphis, TN…Eastside All Day!
What sets Young Fly Richy aside from other rappers?
What sets me aside from other rappers, especially rappers in my city, I guess you can say I’m different, I’m eccentric, I’m very versatile, most rappers from Memphis are “trap” rappers or like “dope-boy” rappers. I’m really just going against the normal, which is in Memphis by just being me, how I live, the people I have around me, how I dress, and everything.
Who are you mostly influenced by?
Big influences…you can say Micheal Jackson, that’s somebody who inspired me, Run DMC, Sugar Hill Gang, Kayne West, Lupe Fiasco, Pharrell, new influences…people in Memphis like Skewby, me and him are getting close and he’s kind of setting a trademark for new rappers in Memphis. So I really like what he got going on!
What is something that other people might not expect from you? (interests, hobbies, etc.)
That I skate! I’m a skateboarder; I do it all the time…Most of my friends know that I do it! I’m always practicing on the skateboard, that’s my new hobby!
If Young Fly Richy wasn’t rapping, he would be…?
Designing clothes, but I do that already anyway!
What’s your favorite song to perform?
“Same Difference,” it’s really been a big song for me! I performed it in some big spots, and it gets anybody motivated…So it’s a good look!
What’s the craziest thing a groupie has ever done to get your attention?
Like on Facebook ,this actually happened a couple of times, a couple of girls had asked me for my email address and these girls had said they wanted to take a picture to promote our music, and the pictures they sent…they were kind of nude in them junks! Facebook is crazy…honesty box is to; they leave crazy stuff all the time, so yeah groupies are ff the chain!
Who are some people you would like to collab with in the future?
Skewby, we working on that right now actually. Kayne, Pharrell, Lupe. This chick name M.I.A, and the Cool Kids, that would be off the chain!
What’s your favorite song of all time?
“The Show” by Dougie Fresh & Slick Rick. What’s your favorite album of all time?“Graduation”, that’s my favorite album of all time…and “Off the Wall” by Micheal Jackson.
So are you single or taken?
I’m single…some girls might claim they talk to me but as far as statuses and all that, but right now I’m single! I’m looking for my “Fly Girl” right now.
Would you consider yourself to be an overachiever?
I guess you can say that I’m a perfectionist, and that’s why like with my music right now… I’m taking so long to put it out, because I just strive to be the best! I get influenced by my dad, and it makes me just go out there and grind hard.
Who is your favorite rapper?
A rapper I really get my inspiration from is Kayne West.
Do you think Hip Hop Music accurately portrays sex or do you think it negatively influences younger kids?
I think with Hip Hop today it’s in both categories, because you have a lot of people these days that are trying to go for this “dope-boy” image, and sometimes you’ll see these cats outside the booth and they not really doing what they say in their lyrics or wateva’. Then at the same time you got to look at it in the art form …it can be positive for some people, like saying don’t do this, don’t go the route I go. I don’t think we have a lot of rappers today that’s trying to speak the truth, and really trying to educate these kids out here on what’s real, and what we can do, and how we can be leaders in this nation! It’s like the voting thing going down with Obama, is the presidential campaigns and stuff, we could have rappers promoting that… but they rather rap and grind hard talking about how many 0’s they slanged, and all the clothes we rocking. Some of that stuff just gets played out, and everybody needs to just start being their self and start being real with what they say!
What can we expect from you in 2008?
A lot of crazy, different type of music that you have never heard from out of Memphis, I’m really going left from a traditional rapper! I got some mixtapes coming real soon, the biggest one coming soon is called “The Goodtime Mixtape,” I got some production from Skewby coming, this kid name Iceman and a list of others…I’m really excited about it, hopefully everything will be dropping around May or June.
What’s your opinion on Superhead and the recent trend of women writing tell-all books?
I guess you can say “sex sales”! Superhead, in a way it’s a good thing that she made some money, but at the same time it’s like what would you do to get money?....I think that she could be doing a whole bunch of stuff, rather then telling how she use to “do” all these guys, tell the video girls how to go around from getting setup like she did, even though she was getting paid by these guys…. When it all falls down, most guys probably look at her as a “hoe”. I just think it’s a better route to go and make money!
Any advice to upcoming rappers?
Keep God first; keep your family with you all the time…Really on the God thing, just pray because you go through stuff all the time, and the devil will test you hard! Just practice, practice what you preach, practice what you live, and just grind hard and be yourself, and don’t let the media fool you into being something that your not!
Shout-outs:
